Reliable urgent medical care when you need it most - located in central Dunedin

Dunedin Urgent Doctors is here to provide you with the necessary urgent medical care and support if you are:

  • unable to secure an appointment with your regular GP,
  • or it's outside of regular business hours,
  • or you are not yet registered with a local practice
  • or you're a visitor to the region.
Our urgent care clinic gives you high-quality medical treatment for non-life-threatening emergencies, injuries or illnesses as an alternative to presenting at the hospital.

We operate a walk-in service with a dedicated group of medical professionals offering urgent medical care and primary health care. Upon arrival, you'll be assessed based on urgency, ensuring you receive the care you need when you need it. We offer urgent care and an after-hours doctors surgery for:

  • treatment for minor injuries such as cuts, sprains, and minor bone fractures
  • care for common illnesses including colds, flu, and infections
  • minor surgeries including suturing and wound care
  • diagnostic services such as X-rays, lab tests, and EKGs
You don't have to wait for primary health care - we're here every day for your urgent needs. Find us at 18 Filleul Street in central Dunedin.

Flexible timing including extended hours and no appointment necessary

Medical emergencies don't always keep office hours. That's why we are available from early morning until late night, 365 days a year. Our 24 hour, seven days a week operating hours are specifically designed to ensure that our primary health care services are accessible when you need them, outside of regular business hours. And because we work without the need to book appointments you can simply walk in when you need us. You'll be triaged on arrival and we'll see you as soon as possible.

There is also an urgent pharmacy next door to our clinic which is open from 10am to 10pm giving you a convenient option for filling any prescriptions after treatment.

Comprehensive follow-ups and continuity of care

After treating your immediate issue, we can provide recommendations for follow-up care such as referrals to rehab services, for ACC claims or offering advice and education to prevent your problem recurring.

If you have visited us because you were unable to see your regular GP then we can share our notes on your treatment with them to ensure continuity of care if you attend your clinic for follow-up visits.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are a walk-in clinic. Although we try to manage our staffing to meet the needs of the community, an unexpectedly high number of patients or patients with more complex needs may result in a long wait time.

We work off a triage system. Patients who need care sooner may be seen before you. We also run other services (e.g. hospital x-ray, immigration clinic) and these patients may be seen out of the order they arrived in.

For clinical safety reasons, you are expected to remain in the waiting room until you are seen. You may leave to pay for parking or move your car; however, please ask our nursing staff if it is safe for you to do this.

No, we do not have access to your GP’s records. Our medical staff can only access lab results, notes from previous visits to our clinic and prescription records.

One of our team will contact you by text or phone about any radiology or lab results. If you have a local GP, they will receive a copy of your results and can discuss them with you. We do not upload these results to Manage My Health; this is done by your own GP.

We can write medical certificates for time off work or restricted duties due to illness or injury when appropriate. We are unable to complete WINZ medical certificates so you will need to see your own GP for these.
We are now open 24 hours a day.  Between 10pm and 8am the clinic is staffed by registered nurses, paramedics, and extended care paramedics with telemedicine support
